Before you are ready to change your diet to lower your blood pressure, you ought to make up your mind to take up some habits like counting calories and  the portion size. That means, you need to write down the foods you eat every day.

To lower your blood pressure, you need to do following things:

  • Have a diet with less salt and sodium. Gererally speaking, it is good for one to lower his or her daily salt intake to about 1 teaspoon of salt. Whenever you are shopping ,read the nutrition fact label on the package and avoid foods which have 20% or more daily value of sodium.
  • Avoid canned foods, processed foods, lunch meats, and fast foods.
  • Take foods with large amount of potassium and fiber. Remember, fibers are always on the skin of fruits and vegetables. So, you had better eat vegetables and fruits directly instead of in the form of juice.

Following foods will help you a lot: apples, apricots, bananas, beet greens, broccoli, carrots, collards, green beans, dates, grapes, green peas, kale, lima beans, mangoes, melons, oranges, peaches, pineapples, potatoes, raisins, spinach, squash and strawberries.
