What is Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment?

Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment is also known as Tuskegee Syphilis Study. It was an unethical experiment, which started in 1932 and ended in 1972.

It aimed at observing the natural progression of syphilis by leaving it untreated. Besides, the staff conducted the experiment in African-American men in Alabama, the USA.

Although penicillin has become the standard treatment for the disease since 1947, the patients in this experiment still could not receive any effective treatment.

Eventually, many African Americans, including men, women and children, became the victim of the infamous experiment.

In 1997, President Clinton apologized to victims of this experiment formally.
