If there is too much specific types of bacteria in your body, inflammation may occur in your colon. This is what we call pseudomembranous colitis.

The most common bacterium that triggers the disease is Clostridium difficile (C.diff). So pseudomembranous colitis can also be called C.difficile colitis.

It is mostly diagnosed in people above 65. Children and infants rarely have the disease.
