Developed by the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer, PCV13 is a type of pneumococcal vaccine which covers the 13 most common serotypes with a coverage of up to 70%. It is the conjugate vaccine with the highest coverage, covering the most resistant serotypes 3, 6A and 19A. PCV13 prevents pneumococcal diseases, including pneumonia, otitis media (temporary / permanent deafness), septicemia (bacterial invasion) and meningitis (which may cause blindness and impaired brain function).
