The following medication can be used for alopecia areata:

External medicine
5% minoxidil cream or solvent is applied 1 or 2 times a day.

0.5% to 1% Yulin ointment or cream is a primary irritant, and is applied 1 to several times a day.

Contact sensitizer
Diphenylcyclopropenone (DCP) is most commonly used.

Potent hormones are used externally. 0.05% dexamethasone and 50% dimethyl sulfoxide solution have a better effect than topical cream.

Internal medication
Glucocorticoid Prednisone is taken orally. The dose of this medicine is gradually reduced after several weeks. Then, the medicine is taken in small doses for 6 months.

Cyclosporine is also used. The course of treatment is 6 to 12 months.
