Kidney cancer begins in the kidneys and have different types whose incidences vary among different groups of people.

In adults, the most common type is renal cell carcinoma, accounting for 90% of all cancerous tumors. Apart from renal cell carcinoma, other less common types can also occur. In children, the most common one is a kind of kidney cancer called Wilms’ tumor.

The incidence of kidney cancer tends to increase over the years. It does not mean that the disease becomes more fatal. Instead, it may be attributed to the development and spread of imaging techniques such as CT. More kidney cancers can be diagnosed accidentally and patients can receive more prompt treatment.
