What Is Ischemic Cardiomyopathy?

Q:

What does ischemic cardiomyopathy mean?

A:

Ischemic cardiomyopathy (IC) is a form of cardiomyopathy which can be caused by a narrowing of the coronary arteries that transfuse blood to the heart. In this condition, your heart muscle is weakened because of coronary artery disease or heart attack.

Frequently people with IC have a history of acute myocardial infarction. And this disease can also develop in people with coronary artery disease. IC is one of the major causes of sudden cardiac death.

If you have coronary artery disease, the arteries which supply blood to your heart become narrowed. Narrowed arteries can prevent necessary blood from entering the heart muscle, and lead to damage in the heart. People with IC have n large and weak left ventricle. It weakens the heart’s ability of pumping blood, slowly causing heart failure.
