Interstitial lung disease refers to many disorders. Most of these disorders cause scarring of lung tissue. The disease can make it difficult for the person to breathe.

This disease occurs when a person is exposed for a long time to harmful substances such as asbestos. Several autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis can cause the disorder as well.

Symptoms include:

  • Dry cough
  • Shortness of breath

This disease is generally irreversible. Medicine can only slow down the damage. Having surgery to get new lungs is an option.
