What Is IBS with Constipation?

Q:
What is IBS with constipation?

A:
IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) with constipation is usually defined as belly pain (abdominal pain) with constipation. The pain is usually long-lasting and keeps coming back. Those suffering from IBS with constipation may have hard or lumpy stools, or loose or watery stools.

The exact cause of IBS is not known. It is believed to be caused by abnormal activity of the muscles of the intestines and/or the nerves that control the muscles.

When the condition is not yet serious, the belly pain and cosntipation may be mild and won’t interfere with your normal activities. However, if it grows severe, you may get very uncomfortable and your daily life may be influenced. In the latter case, you need to immediately see a doctor.
