What Is Hypoglycemic Coma?

Q:
What is hypoglycemic coma?

A:
A hypoglycemic coma is a kind of life-threatening diabetes complication, which would cause unconsciousness.

People with diabetes, dangerously high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) or dangerously low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) are at a high risk of getting hypoglycemic coma.

If you can’t awaken or respond to sights, sounds or other types of stimulation but left untreated, a hypoglycemic coma can be fatal.

Although it may be scary to have it, fortunately, we can take steps to help prevent it, like following your diabetes treatment plan first.

If you feel extreme signs or symptoms and think you might pass out, call 911 or your local emergency help.

Wish you health!
