What is fasciitis and how many types of it？
Fasciitis refers to the inflammation of a fascia. There are mainly four types of it.
1. Eosinophilic fasciitis: It often appears in the limbs. The symptoms are edema and swelling. It often caused by strenuous exercise.
2. Necrotizing fasciitis: It is a gas-forming, acute, necrotic infection of the superficial and deep fascia. It often affects vessels and underlying tissues. It is usually caused by multiple pathogens. People with diabetes mellitus are at a higher risk of getting it.
3. Nodular fasciitis: It is a benign, reactive proliferation of fibroblasts in the subcutaneous tissues, commonly affecting the deep fascia. It appears usually in young adults.
4. Proliferative fasciitis: It is a benign reactive proliferation of fibroblasts in subcutaneous tissues. It appears usually in older adults.
