What Is Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome?

Q:
What is dysplastic nevus syndrome?

A:
Dysplastic nevus syndrome, or DNS, is a skin condition in which there are many atypical nevi (moles) present due to mutations in certain genes.

These atypical nevi vary in size, shape and color. But in general, they are more than 5 mm in diameter.

Pay attention to the nevi, as they may develop into melanoma, the most dangerous form of skin cancer.
