What Is Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma?

Q:

What is clear cell renal cell carcinoma?

A:

Clear cell renal cell carcinoma (CCRCC), also known as conventional renal cell carcinoma, is a renal cortical tumor. It is the most common type of renal cell carcinoma, accounting for 75%-85% of renal tumors.

Clear cells means the cells’ high lipid content in the cytoplasm dissolves, which possibly originates from mature renal tubular cells. This type of kidney cancer is considered as the less likely to spread. What’s more, treatments are more likely to be effective at this stage.
