What Is Chronic Leukemia?

Q:

What is chronic leukemia?

A:

Chronic leukemia refers to an increase of abnormal white blood cells. In chronic leukemia, the white blood cells do not mature completely. They seems like normal white blood cells, but cannot function, such as fighting against infection, as well as normal ones. What’s more, theses cancer cells usually exist longer than normal ones. Then they will build up and gradually crowd out normal cells that are in the bone marrow.

Chronic leukemias may progress slower and remain the same for years. People with chronic leukemia still live for many years after diagnosis. However, it is usually more difficult to cure chronic leukemias than those acute ones.
