Pericardial cysts are uncommon paracardiac lesions. They usually do not cause obvious symptoms and they are mostly detected by chance. And they are unusual pain cause of chest pain.

Possible symptoms

  • Recurrent chest pain
  • Shortness of breath
  • Cough
  • Dysphagia

Location

We can find them on the right side. Over 75% of them are right-sided and about 22% left-sided.

  • Chest X-ray
  • Chest computed tomography
  • MRI

Treatment and prognosis

They are benign lesions. All the following treatments depend on the characteristics and location of the cyst and the patient’s surgical risk. Treatment options include:

Surgical removal

  • Video-assisted thoracic surgery
  • Aspiration
