Haemophilus influenza bacteria can cause bacterial infections such as pneumonia. 10 to 15 percent of all community-acquired pneumonia cases are the result of the bacterium.

Community-acquired pneumonia is pneumonia that is acquired outside of a hospital setting. Symptoms of such pneumonia are fever, productive cough and shortness of breath.

For adults,treatment consists of third-generation cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones and beta-lactam pencillins. For children with haemophilus influenzae infections, antibiotics are mostly used. The length of the treatment varies and is depending on the location and severity of the infection.
