What are the risk factors for cervical cancer?

Human papillomavirus (HPV), a common virus that can spread through intercourse, is the main cause of cervical cancer. HPV is very common. Most people get it at some time, but not all of them get affected by cervical cancer, for only certain types of HPV can cause changes on women’s cervix and trigger the cancer.
Besides the main cause, there are other risk factors which lead to cervical cancer:
Smoking
Getting infected by HIV (the virus that causes AIDS)
Getting affected by other diseases that make it hard for your body to fight off health problems
Having more than one sexual partner
Having given birth to three or more children
Continuously using oral contraceptives (for five or more years)
