What Are the Differences between Blepharitis and Meibomits?

Q:
What are the differences between blepharitis and meibomits?

A:
Blepharitis and meibomitis are conditions of the eyelashes and eyelids. They can lead to itching, redness, irritation, burning, pain and blurred vision of the eyes. The cause of them may be related to dry or watery eyes.

Blepharitis occurs when dry or dead skin cells accumulate in the eyelashes or at their base. When the bacteria on the skin infest the eyelashes or adjacent eyelid areas, this condition can be aggravated.

Meibomitis occurs when the glands in the eyelids near the eyelashes become plugged with solidified oil.

I will give you some suggestions of the treatments for blepharitis and meibomitis:

  • Wash your hands thoroughly.
  • Eyelid or eyelash scrubs.
  • Use sterile eyelid cleanser, and follow professional directions to clean the lashes and the edge of the eyelids.
