Polycythemia vera is a slow-growing blood cancer in which your bone marrow makes too many red blood cells.
Polycythemia usually develops slowly and it isn’t common. Without treatments, polycythemia can be life-threatening.
Possible complications of it include:
- Blood clots
- Enlarged spleen
- Other blood disorders
- Problems due to high levels of red blood cells
