What Are the Causes of Male-Pattern Baldness?

Q:
What are the causes of male-pattern baldness?

A:
Male-pattern alopecia is caused by excessive male hormones. Studies have found that males with a genetic predisposition have a special hormone, dihydrotestosterone (DHT), in the scalp of the head and anterior alopecia, and the concentration of DHT is very high.

This DHT can cause the hair follicles to shrink, shorten the hair growth cycle, and cause the hair to be soft, sparse, and fall off. How does DHT synthesize? The study found that a protease called 5a reductase converts testosterone (another hormone) into DHT, and males with congenital 5a reductase deficiency will not catch hair loss.
