Postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS) is a condition in which a change of gesture such as from lying to standing will cause the abnormally large increase in an individual’s heart rate.

People with POTS may have some symptoms such as fatigue, lightheadedness, blurry vision, trouble thinking, weakness and poor appetite. Besides, there may be some other physical conditions including chronic headaches, insomnia, irritable bowel syndrome, Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, and fibromyalgia.

What are the treatments for postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome?

The treatments for POTS are as follows.

  • Medicines: You may take beta blockers, pyridostigmine, midodrine, or fludrocortisone.
  • Diet changes: Eat smaller meals more often with a healthy balance of protein, vegetables, fruits, and dairy. Remember to drink enough water.
  • Regular exercise: Walking or yoga can help you to keep heart healthy and relieve POTS symptoms.
