Seizure Disorder VS Epilepsy

Seizure disorder refers to the uncontrolled electrical disturbance in the brain. Seizure disorder may lead to behavior changes, difficult walking or loss of consciousness.

Epilepsy is a kind of central nervous system (neurological) disorder in which brain activity becomes abnormal, causing serious situations including seizures, or even loss of awareness. Epilepsy can affect both males and females of all races, ethnic backgrounds and ages.

It should be noticed that, seizer disorder is one of the symptoms of epilepsy, but not all seizures are caused by epilepsy.

The causes of seizure disorder include:

  • Trauma
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
  • Low blood sodium
  • High fever
  • Excessive alcohol drinking
  • Drug abuse

The causes of epilepsy include:

  • Genetic influence
  • Head trauma
  • Prenatal injury
  • Strokes
  • Family history
  • Brain tumors
  • Brain infections
  • Developmental disorders such as autism and neurofibromatosis
  • Infectious diseases such as meningitis, AIDS and viral encephalitis
