Natural Home Remedies for Cervical Spondylosis Pain

Cervical spondylosis pain is a very common age-related condition that affects the joints in the neck. It occurs because of the wear of the cartilage, bones and tissues of the cervical spine. The changes may include herniated discs, dehydrated discs, stiff ligaments and bone spurs. There are some simple but effective treatments to treat this problem.

1. Regular exercise

The lack of regular exercise is one of the major causes of cervical spondylosis. Therefore, you can reduce stiffness and pain around the shoulders and neck by incorporating regular physical exercise into your lifestyle.

What you should do:

Turn your head in both counterclockwise and clockwise directions and then nod to your side from shoulder to shoulder.

You’d better do this every day for about ten minutes 2 or 3 times.

This will help reduce the pain in the neck.

2. Hot and cold compresses

Alternating cold and hot compresses on the affected area is one of the best home remedies for cervical spondylosis pain. Cold compresses reduce inflammation and swelling, while hot compresses will relax sore muscles and improve blood circulation.

What you should do:

Wrap a hot water bag in a thin cloth to make the hot compress.

Wrap a few ice cubes in a thin cloth to make the cold compress.

Next, place the hot compress on the affected area for about 2 to 3 minutes.

Remove it and then apply the cold compress for about 1 minute.

Follow this process for at least 15 minutes.

It is recommended that you repeat the simple process several times a day until you feel relief.

Avoid cold compresses if you have circulatory problems.

Do not apply hot compresses if your affected area is irritated and red.

3. Epsom salt

Epsom salt is one of the best home remedies for cervical spondylosis pain. The magnesium in Epsom salt manages the pH levels in your body, which in turn reduces stiffness, pain and inflammation in the shoulders and neck.

What you should do:

Mix a little water in Epsom salt (1 to 2 tablespoons) to make a thick paste.

Then apply the paste to the troubled area for about 15 to 20 minutes to get soothing comfort.

It is suggested to follow this remedy every day.

4. Garlic

Garlic is also considered as an effective home remedy for cervical spondylosis pain. Its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties help treat swelling, pain and inflammation in the neck and surrounding areas.

What you should do:

Eat some raw garlic buds on an empty stomach in the morning with water.

5. Turmeric

Turmeric is one of the most popular home remedies for cervical spondylosis pain due to its anti-inflammatory properties. In addition, turmeric increases blood circulation, which helps decrease muscle stiffness as well as pain.

What you should do:

Mix turmeric powder (1 teaspoon) in milk (one glass).

Heat it over low heat for about 5 minutes.

Wait till it is cool and then add a little honey.

You should drink it twice a day.
