Is glioblastoma brain cancer hereditary?
Glioblastoma brain cancer can be hereditary, but heredity is not the only cause of the disease. According to the study, having a family history of glioblastoma will increase the risk of developing it. But other factors can cause glioblastoma, too.
Other risking factors include:
- Aging: glioblastomas are most common in adults between ages 45 and 65.
- Environmental factors: exposure to smoking, pesticides, radiation, working in petroleum refining or rubber manufacturing.
- Some viruses: cytomegalovirus, HHV-6 and SV40.
