Q:
How to treat costochondritis?
A:
Costochondritis usually goes away without treatment, but sometimes it may take several months or even a year for a thorough recover. You may need any of the following to relieve the pain:
• Avoid sports or activities that may worsen the pain
• Apply cold or hot compresses
You can also take some medicines to help you feel better:
• Acetaminophen. This medicine is available without a doctor’s prescription. But you should take it under directions as incorrect dose may cause liver damage.
• NSAIDs. This medicine can decrease pain, swelling and fever and is available with or without a doctor’s prescription. But you should talk with your provider before using his medicine as it can cause stomach bleeding or kidney problems in certain people. Children under 6 months should not take this medicine without direction from healthcare providers.
