Q:
How to relieve astigmatism?
A:
Astigmatism is usually diagnosed by an eye exam. Treatment of astigmatism aims to improve eye vision and clarity. Major treatments of astigmatism include:
Corrective Lenses:
- Eyeglasses
- Contact Lenses
Refractive Surgery:
- Laser-assisted in-situ keratomileusis (LASIK). With this procedure, your eye surgeon makes a thin, hinged flap in your cornea.
- Laser-assisted subepithelial keratectomy (LASEK). The surgeon loosens the cornea’s thin protective cover (epithelium) with a special alcohol.
- Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK). This procedure is similar to LASEK, except the surgeon removes the epithelium. It will grow back naturally, conforming to your cornea’s new shape.
- Epi-LASIK.
