A:
Hodgkin’s disease, also called Hodgkin’s lymphoma (HL), is a unique type of lymphoma characterized by Reed-Sternberg cells.

The disease firstly occurs in a group of lymph nodes, which are common in cervical lymph nodes and supraclavicular lymph nodes, and then spreads to other lymph nodes. In the advanced stage, blood vessels can be invaded, involving the spleen, liver, bone marrow and digestive tract.

Classic Hodgkin’s lymphoma can be divided into four histological types:

  • Ÿ   Chronic lymphocytic leukemia
  • Ÿ   Cutaneous B-cell lymphoma
  • Ÿ   Cutaneous T-cell lymphoma
  • Ÿ   Lymphoma

The disease will be determined based on your personal and family medical history.  In order to diagnose Hodgkin’s disease, tests and procedures applied may include:

  • Ÿ   Physical exam
  • Ÿ   Blood tests
  • Ÿ   Imaging tests
  • Ÿ   Removing a lymph node for testing
  • Ÿ   Removing a sample of bone marrow for testing

Please consult your doctor for the most suitable tests or procedures depending on your situation.
