Blood clots are clumps of cells and protein in your blood. They are beneficial when they form in response to an injury or a cut, plugging the injured blood vessel, which stops bleeding. It usually dissolves as you heal. However, if it doesn’t, or if it forms when it’s not needed, it can clog up or completely block a blood vessel, which will result in serious conditions and even death. If it happens in a vein, you can feel pain and swelling.

When an unexpected clot slows or stops the flow of blood, it can build up in the vessel and the symptoms will be:

  • Swelling. If it happens in your lower leg or calf, it’s often a sign of a deep vein thrombosis (DVT).
  • Pain and sores from damage to the blood vessel. A clot often hurts where it’s located, like in your lower leg, stomach, or under your throat.
  • Bluish or reddish skin color.
  • Trouble Breathing. It’s a serious symptom which could be a sign that you have a clot in your lung or your heart.

In Rose’s husband’s case, we are unable to determine whether a blood clot happens. It is likely that the swelling oppresses the nerves and causes the feelings. There is a possibility of blood clots, which causes the swelling, because considering Rose’s husband’s occupation, he might have to sit for many hours on the boat, which increases the risk of a blood clot. A mosquito bite feeling is not a sign of a blood clot. We suggest Rose’s husband to see doctor or go to the emergency room right away because a blood clot can be deadly, and you are not able to know for sure whether you have it until you get checked. It’s better to get the right treatment for your conditions.
