How can we treat blepharitis at home?
Blepharitis is usually a long-term condition, which means once it develops it can cause repeated episodes. Besides the professional advice, there exist remedies for the home treatment.
In addition to establishing a daily eyelid-cleaning routine, warm compress is recommended as a self-care measure.
Warm compresses will help loosen scales and debris around your eyelashes. They even help dilute oil secretions from the oil glands, and then reducing the risk of an enlarged lump. The heat from warm compresses improves blood circulation, which is essential for quick healing. Specific steps are as follows:
- Dip a clean washcloth in warm water.
- Wring it out and place it over your closed eyelid for a couple of minutes.
- Repeat 3 or 4 times, rewetting the washcloth as it cools.
- Clean any oily debris or scales collected on the eyelid using a clean cloth.
You may use this remedy several times a day until your condition improves. If the infection is in both eyes, use separate washcloths for each eye.
However, if that is not enough, you may turn to your doctor for suggestions and prescriptions.
