Does cystic fibrosis need lung transplant?
Cystic fibrosis is an inherited disease that causes secretions, like mucus or digestive juices, in the body to become thick and sticky. The thick and stick mucus will block the tubes in your body. As a result, you may have breathing problems, lung disease and other problems in other organs.
If your breathing problems and lung disease are extremely severe, and antibiotics are ineffective in treating lung infections, you may need lung transplant surgery.
Generally, after lung transplant, cystic fibrosis won’t occur in the new lungs. But some complications, such as diabetes, pancreas problems, won’t disappear after the surgery.
