What is cortisol deficiency?
Cortisol deficiency is when a person does not have enough of the important hormone cortisol in their body.
Cortisol is produced by the adrenal gland, which sits on top of the kidney and helps the body cope with stress and other functions. This defect may indicate adrenal dysfunction or hypophysis.
It’s a potentially serious problem with all kinds of symptoms. In the most severe cases, it can lead to exhaustion or even death. Once diagnosed, treatment usually includes medication and monitoring.
