Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) can cause infections in the lungs and respiratory tract. It is very common in children, but it can also infect adults.

RSV is contagious and spreads very fast. The virus can enter the body through the eyes, nose or mouth and spread through two main ways—the air on infected respiratory droplets and direct contact.

That is to say, if you stay close to people with RSV, you may get infected, especially when they cough or sneeze. You may also be infected when you shake hand with RSV patients. Besides, the virus can be alive on objects for hours, you’re likely to get RSV if you touch your mouth, nose or eyes after touching a contaminated object.
