Corticobasal degeneration is the condition in which parts of the brain break down, and the nerve cells gradually die. It typically affects the cerebral cortex and basal ganglia.

Symptoms

  • Brief involuntary muscle spasms
  • Contractures
  • Difficulty in moving
  • Poor coordination
  • Progressive stiffening or tightening of muscles in the limbs
  • Slight tremors while in particular positions
  • Speech and language abnormalities/difficulties

Note: The symptoms vary from person to person. So, the patient may not have all of the symptoms above.

Life Expectancy

Unfortunately, there is currently no cure for corticobasal degeneration. According to records, the patient has about 8 to 10 years of life from the onset of this condition.
