Barrett esophagus is a disorder in which the lining of the esophagus is damaged by stomach acid (see picture below). The exact cause of Barrett’s esophagus is still unkown. However, most people with Barrett’s esophagus have a long-standing gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD).

Currently, there is no cure for Barrett’s esophagus. So it will not go away if you are diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus. However, your doctor will recommend medications and treatments to prevent further damage from occuring.
