Splenic artery aneurysms are the most common visceral artery aneurysms, accounting for up to 60% of such lesions. They are the third most common abdominal aneurysm, after aneurysm of the abdominal aorta and iliac arteries.

They occur mostly in pregnant women in the third trimester. The mortality rate after rupture has remained high at 36%. The risk factors usually include smoking and hypertension.

In most cases of splenic artery aneurysms, they are asymptomatic. The classic radiographic appearance is that of a curvilinear signet ring-shaped calcification in the left upper quadrant.

Patients with pseudoaneurysms associated inflammatory processes, women of child-bearing age are at a higher risk of developing splenic artery aneurysms.
