Can you give me some information about oropharyngeal dysphagia?
Dysphagia refers to difficulty swallowing; and oropharyngeal means “of mouth or pharynx”.
The mouth is the beginning of swallowing, then the food will go through your throat, or pharynx. Therefore, if the difficulty of swallowing is due to the problem in the mouth or the throat, it is oropharyngeal dysphagia.
In most cases, causes of oropharyngeal dysphagia are the problems of nerves and muscles.
Another type of dysphagia takes place in the food pipe, and it is called esophageal dysphagia.
